A 41 mm bore leaves room for a 40 mm insert plus adhesive clearance, which is why this size appears in booms, oar and paddle shafts, and any joint that sleeves a smaller tube. The 2.0 mm wall gives the section real bending stiffness at a diameter that still fits standard clamps and collars found on 45 mm hardware. Both surfaces are sealed, so the tube can be bonded or clamped without extra surface prep.
