Pultruded carbon fiber tube, 300mm long, hollow all the way through. Outside 1.8mm to 10mm.

The size code has three numbers: outside diameter, bore, then length.

5*3*300mm is 5mm outside, 3mm bore, 300mm long — so a 1mm wall.
8*6*300mm is 8mm outside, 6mm bore — also a 1mm wall, just a bigger tube.

Wall thickness is the number that decides how the tube behaves. Work it out as (outside - bore) / 2. The 8*4mm tube has a 2mm wall and is the stiffest thing on this list. The 5*4mm tube has a 0.5mm wall, weighs almost nothing, and will flex noticeably if you span it. Same outside diameter, very different jobs.

Sizes

Wall figures are calculated from the outside and bore, so treat them as nominal rather than measured.

About the finish

These are pultruded — pulled through a die as a continuous length rather than wrapped around a mandrel. The fibres run along the tube, so the surface is smooth and matte with no weave pattern showing. That is how pultruded tube looks, not a fault. The trade-off is direction: it is very stiff along the length and considerably less so if you bend it across a short span, so keep loads running down the tube where you can.

Where we see them used

RC plane pushrods, kite spars and spreaders, quadcopter arm extensions, small robot linkages, and model boat masts. The smaller bores are handy when you need to run wire or a thinner rod through the middle without adding a second part.

Before you order

• Check both numbers. Two tubes with the same outside diameter are not interchangeable — 8*4mm and 8*6mm have different bores and different walls, and they will behave differently in the same frame.
• Cut with a fine-tooth blade or an abrasive disc. Support the tube on both sides of the cut or the wall will pinch shut.
• 300mm is the only length in this listing. Longer lengths and other bore combinations can usually be supplied — message us with the numbers you need.
